The history of portable computing is much older than most people think. Although Toshiba introduced the first portable laptop computer in 1985 they have been building that technology for over a century. Toshiba laptops were not only the first laptops in the world, but they were also some of the earliest forms of computers available to the general public in an affordable, easy to manage design.
Toshiba has been studying mechanical and electrical systems for over 130 years and have a number of ‘firsts' in these fields including the first electric washing machines and refrigerators in Japan and the worlds first video phone. They also introduced the first wireless laptop, the first color screen on a laptop and the first DVD player in a laptop. The innovations have never ceased and are constantly evolving to suit the ever changing needs of computer and electronics users.
One of the most interesting innovations found on Toshiba laptops is facial recognition software that automatically logs a person in and out whether or not they are in front of the computer. This is the same software the FBI uses to track people in airports and large sporting events. No passwords are required to log in because the computer takes a picture of the users face and can recognize definable features. When another person comes up to the computer it will block them from using it unless they have an account on said computer, then it will automatically log them in.
For the well connected business men and women Toshiba offers an automatic business card reader that automatically takes the text and information from the card and loads it into whatever program is being used to manage this information such as Microsoft Outlook. This is a useful feature for any professional who meets a lot of people and collects a lot of cards. When space runs out on the already large internal hard drive it's easy to connect external drives with a high speed eSATA USB port which can transfer files 5 times faster than a regular USB port. They even offer wireless USB connections to completely eliminate cable clusters.
For the multimedia junkies Toshiba offers a built in FM tuner, TV tuner, and HDMI connections to show those high quality graphics in full 1080p with Dolby 5.1 surround sound on any size HD ready television. Watching movies has never been so enveloping and for movie and graphic based applications there is nothing better than seeing them on 56” plasma screen. Gaming will never be the same either.
Innovations are nothing if the device doesn't look good. Luckily that is covered by Toshiba with high tech finishes complete with an LED backlit keyboard and dashboard, chrome accents, and a slot loading optical drive to avoid any clutter and exposed parts. They are streamlined, wind tunnel tested, and impact resistant with a solid state drive (SSD) option that removes almost all the moving parts in the entire computer. Taking into account all the various features makes Toshiba one of the leading laptop manufacturers in the world.
