A
portable computer is not the same as a laptop. Laptop computers have
internal parts that are different than what are used in a desktop computer
and can be run on batteries. On the other hand, a portable unit is designed
more like a traditional desktop computer, do not run on batteries, and
are slightly larger than the average laptop.
Portable computers have some advantages over a laptop. First, they
use the standard types of motherboards used in regular desktop computers,
making them somewhat easier to upgrade and repair. And because they
use standard 3 ½” drives, they have a much higher memory
capacity.
The portable computer is becoming a popular alternative to the laptop.
The larger capacities and compact design gives you the transportability
of a laptop, but with much higher computing power. However, these machines
are still a bit to bulky for most people that need to travel with their
computer.
