If you thought Apple was having all the fun with laptop design it's time to think again. Conceptual HP laptops are some of the craziest looking and acting designs that have ever graced the computing industry. What makes them so unique and crazy you ask? Let's start with something a little milder.
The HP Eco, a concept designed in part with Intel, is a laptop made from completely recycled materials, sports an ergonomic cool green case that is organic and shock resistant and comes with a number of wireless features include a bar code scanner, security bracelet and wifi connectivity. What the bar code scanner is for has yet to be determined, but it could be great for the small business owner and entrepreneur. It's also powered by solar cells and can track the pulse of the user.
One of the most interesting new designs for HP laptops uses one of the hottest new screen materials OLED which can be stiff or flexible and change its characteristics between those with the push of a button. This means that the screen can be stored in a roll which can be rolled out into a perfectly flat, bright, and stiff but not brittle screen. OLED uses less power than an LCD screen as well as looking like it just came out of a sci-fi movie and could be used to pilot alien craft. Once you are done simply roll it up into its own self contained roll, throw it over the shoulder and go. This one is called the HP Nobag.
For the fitness minded professional the HP Fitness can solve all your problems. It has a wireless wristband that detects heart rate, blood pressure, and tracks calories burned as well as distance traveled. This band is powered by the movements of the user and links to the computer transferring bodily information automatically allowing the user to check their progress and make attainable goals. Want to know how much you weigh? Close the notebook, set it on the floor and stand on it. In moments it will flash your weight while simultaneously logging it into the fitness software recording the results. Now let's get a little wild.
For the narcissists there is the HP Make-up whose round pink frame looks like a giant compact and has a hidden, pop-out compact built in complete with brushes as well as make-up. The screen can instantly change into a perfect mirror for instant touch-ups before the big meeting. Add a fingernail buffer and ebony into the side and she can even fix that nail that broke from typing too fast.
The HP Mama is a glorified, supercharged baby monitor with wireless cameras and a soft, stain resistant casing which is easy to grab, hold and throw even with baby in hand.
People who lose their keys often should avoid the HP Chameleon. It has an outer casing that changes colors to perfectly blend in with whatever it is sitting on making it one of the hardest laptops to steal because those crooks won't even know it is there. The opposite of this model is the HP Perfume which acts as a nightlight and air freshener when not in use.
What's next? Nobody knows. Will these ever make it into production? Probably not in these forms, but the future is bright and unexpected so don't be surprised when even more radical forms come to fruition.
Now, do you really think Apple is having all the fun?
